Winemakers Notes
The Lovisone Old Vine Zinfandel is a beautiful old vineyard planted in the 60s. Its age and location of the vineyard provide for intense flavors and aromas in this low-yielding Zinfandel. Our Zinfandel was aged 20 months in neutral French oak barrels, highlighting the fruit.
The grapes were fermented separately in small lots at cool temperatures. This cooler method creates a longer fermentation that accentuates the fruit flavors while adding complexity. To avoid the extraction of harsh tannins, no pumps were used until after the wine was pressed off the skins. The bins were hand-punched daily and gently stirred.
Tasting Notes
Our 2023 Old Vine Zinfandel boasts rich, concentrated fruit flavors with a soft, smooth mouth feel and well-integrated tannins balanced by bright acidity. It opens with bold aromas of ripe boysenberry, blackberry, and dark cherry, alongside hints of spice and vanilla. On the palate, blackberry and raspberry lead into spiced plum and cocoa. The texture is plush and polished, with soft tannins and a smooth, lingering finish.
